Descript Rooms: An Easy Way to Record Podcasts with Guests

What if you could record podcasts without leaving your editing software?

Enter Descript Rooms.

This new feature lets you record podcasts with guests directly in Descript. This feature is still in beta, meaning it's being tested and is not available to everyone yet.

But, you can sign up for early access at Descript.com/rooms.

Getting Started with Descript Rooms

To start using Descript Rooms, follow these simple steps:

• Open Descript.
• Click the “New Project” button.
• Select “Record with others in rooms.”

This will take you to a space like Zoom, where you can choose your camera and microphone. Type in your name, answer if you’re wearing headphones, and then click join.

Inviting Guests to Your Room

Here's how to invite guests:

1. Copy the link shown in Descript Rooms.
2. Send this link to your guests through email or text.

Note: You can't schedule calls in advance.

Joining as a Guest

As a guest, click the received link. You’ll see options to choose your camera, microphone, and speaker. Enter your name and request to join. The host will see a message to let you in.

Recording Your Session

Once you’re set up:

• Press the record button to start capturing your session.
• Note: the video might look low quality during the call, but it records in high quality like 4K or 1080p (depending on you and your guests' cameras)

There’s a chat box feature and options to manage people in the room. You can pin or remove guests, but you can’t mute them like in other tools.

When done, stop the recording. Files will upload to the cloud, making sure everything is saved and synced.

Editing Your Podcast

After leaving the call, Descript opens your interview in a new project.

One track for each participant is placed into a Sequence.
